我们每一个人的举心动念都是不可替代的。每一个人举心动念产生的后果,别人也是替代不了的。因为因果不可替代,那举心动念就不可替代。

举心动念是我们自作自受的东西,游化自在也是自作自受,我执、法执也是自作自受。那我们要选择哪一种自作自受呢?是主动还是被动的呢?是负起责任还是放弃责任?还是任习惯、外境、烦恼来侵害我们呢?这些都值得我们每个人去观察、去思考。

我们一定要了解这一点——作为一个普通众生,我们举心动念的特质就是“无不是罪,无不是业”。我们能否超越这个特质呢?

觉悟者在行法中有个巧妙的方法就是—— 不为自求 不为自求就是不跟自己建立关联。他逾越了所谓“是罪、是业”的这种自我关联,这就是巧方便。


因为这个“罪” “业”会制约着你,就是福报会制约你,恶报也会制约你。你想真正地、主动地来完成自己人生的责任,自他二利,那是没办法建立的。

这一点呢,我们作为一个欲对自己生命负起责任的人,一定要了解清晰!这个地方是刻不容缓的。

你不了解这一点,你就会有侥幸心,你可能认为自己的作为不得了——我是唯一的、是正确的。好了,我们就开始陷入其中,陷入这个“罪” “业”之中。那你这个所谓的巧方便就建立不起来,因为你没有游化自在方便。你执着于这个“业”与“罪”,它就会把你限制、制约在轮回的循环中,使你陷入这个沼泽地。

那这个不为自求,就是一个路子。是不是唯一的路子呢?你要认得准了——要是唯一的,那巧方便就现前;要不是唯一的,就会左右摇摆、择取不定。你这个抉择不可能产生力量,那就没有安稳的执行力。

这个地方能不能抉择“不为自求”的巧方便呢?就是远超这些烦恼、习惯、矛盾、纠结的关键点——也是如何主动负起责任的关键点。

不可替代性,我们一定要明白这一点,人才会主动地对自己负起责任来。要是认为:总是外境在影响我们、别人在怎么样我们、环境在怎么样我们、他人在怎么样我们……那就不会承担责任。这个责任我们要是不承担,就会推脱责任,推脱责任就会指责别人、指责环境、指责他人等等,那这样我们就永远得不到自主的权力。那自主跟自己就脱钩了,永远就会被境转,会很辛苦。


主动承担责任,就会产生一个责任后的效果——就是主动运用人生。

IRREPLACEABLE

No one can substitute for our own responsibility in anything that goes through our mind. Everyone has to bear the consequences of their own thoughts. No one else is responsible for the causes and conditions that induce any thoughts arising in our mind.

What goes around, comes around. Whatever our mindsets, from an enlightened mind to a Self-clinging mind, we only harvest what we have sowed. So, what kind of mind would we like to choose? An active one or a passive one? Do we take responsibility or do we give it up? Do we want to suffer from our habits and troubles? These are all worth being observed and thought through.

We should be aware, as ordinary people, that every thought is a sort of misguidance and a powerful obstacle. But how can we go beyond this fact?

The wise way for enlightened people to relief themselves is to cease any Self-seeking. They do not identify with any of their achievements. In doing so, they are able to transcend the limitations of each misleading thoughts.


That kind of misleading, ignorant or incorrect knowledge may constrain us. Blessings can restrict us. Evil can also deter us. This is why we are not able to actively take responsibility for our own lives, not to mention to benefit ourselves and others.

As someone who is willing to take responsibility for its own life, we must clearly understand this point. It is urgent and important.


If you do not understand this, you may try to take a chance; You may think you are a terrific, and unique and perfect person in this world. But you may start to get lost and miss the opportunity to use the wise way mentioned above, because your mind is hindered by attachment to your habits, leading you to the swamp of the mind.

Ceasing any Self-seeking is the way out. Is it the only way? If you recognize it is the only way, you have mastered the wise method. If you do not recognize it you may remain indecisive and unbalanced in any of your decision making.


Actually, if we are determined not to think about ourselves, which is also a key point on how we can actively take responsibility, we can remain far beyond our troubles, habits, conflicts and entanglements.

We should clearly know that we deserve what goes around us because of what we have done. And then we can actively take responsibility ourselves. If we keep thinking that we are affected by the environment and people instead of acknowledging that we caused it ourself, we will never take our responsibilities and we will always blame the others and our surroundings. In doing so, we will never be independent, always controlled by the outside phenomena and will suffer greatly from it.


If we actively take our responsibilities, we can actively use our mind to lead our lives.

While following our Master Cifa and learning Buddhism from him, very often I cannot help being moved by his targeted instructions and benefit a lot from them. Now, with a sincerely offering heart for you my fellow practitioners, I’d like to try as much as I can to share his instructions with all of you that I have recorded and sorted out. These series of records covered a number of problems from our daily life. Each problem is reflected from a specific perspective. I hope that we can learn by analog to observe and enlighten our whole life, so as, according to dharma, to arouse us to start using the inherent pure Buddha-nature as our wonderful arising condition, and make our life more beautiful, richer and more colorful.
